Year
2022-2023
Location
Berlin
Since 2018, the Stiftung Exilmuseum in Berlin has been planning to establish a museum dedicated to individuals who fled or were forced to leave their homeland due to Nazi rule, located between the ruins of the Anhalter Bahnhof Berlin.
The museum will focus on the period from 1933 to 1945, when approximately half a million people, predominantly Jews, sought refuge abroad to escape Nazi persecution and aims to tell their stories while connecting their experiences to the present, exploring how exile and displacement have become central issues of our time.
The opening is planned for 2028.
Werkstatt Exilmuseum
In 2022, Markenfilm SPACE, together with chezweitz and schnellebuntebilder, has won the pitch for the scenography, media planning and media production for the Exilmuseum. To give citizens the opportunity to gain insights into the planning and provide a space for actively experiencing and shaping the development of the future museum at Anhalter Bahnhof, the „Werkstatt Exilmuseum“ was established at Fasanenstraße 4 in Berlin. It is a participatory lab, exhibition, and event space where regular discussions, readings, concerts, film screenings, workshops, and much more take place.
Planning the Media Technology
Together with chezweitz and schnellebuntebilder, the old premises of the Käthe Kollwitz Museum were completely redesigned to meet the multidisciplinary requirements. The digital exhibits also reflect the theme of exile and departure. Display panels show thoughts and quotes from exiles and in an atmospheric art installation in the stainwell, which runs as a continuous LED belt through all three floors, these mingle with a babble of voices like at a crowded train station. We focused primarily on technical project management and media planning. Among other things, the „Kuppelsaal“ on the top floor was transtormed into a modern, multifunctional event space with high-tech equipment for film screenings, panel discussions and presentations.
