In cooperation with the European Parliament and the architects of Atelier Brückner, we took the lead for the conception, the interactive design as well as the software development for seven interactive installations within the Europa Experience. For the film documentary, we worked cross-functionally with producers, editors and creatives.
United in Diversity
With this installation, we invite all visitors of the Europa Experience to travel through a Europe without borders. The „United in Diversity“ table is a highlight of the Europa Experience. Using touch screens, visitors can navigate through the large projected 3D map. There are over 90 hotspot cities to be explored. When activated, the hotspots will play a video featuring a short story about an EU success project or an EU agency on that location. The installation consists of 5 touch screens (21.5 inches) as well as a projector in the ceiling that projects graphics onto the 3D map (1920×1200 pixels). There are 5+1 PCs for the multimedia software, all connected via the network. The AS3 software, which is controlled through the touch screens, communicates with the projection software via UDP signals, programmed in VVVV.
Enlargement
With the „Enlargement“ station we tell a story about the EU enlargement over the years. We want to show more than just numbers. Our sources are facts and figures, statistics and data tables, but we want to give every user a playful and interesting look into the different enlargement steps of the EU through the years from 1960 to 2015. Our communication goal is not a scientific view on the enlargement steps, but a data-driven story we can tell from it. Our touchscreen interface sends HTTP-requests through an AIR Application to the light installation and glaspanels. All in a visual appealing look.
Triangle
With an interactive table projection, we show how the three EU institutions work together. Visitors learn about the collaborative process between EU Parliament, Commission and Council. Users are able to choose from four topics. Selecting a topic will launch the corresponding animation on the screen and table. In addition, users can open tabs that reveal further information (deeper information mode) or descriptions of how citizens can influence this process. The installation consists of 3 touch screens (27 inches) and a projector in the ceiling that displays graphics down on the table (1024×768 pixels). The user can influence the table animation using his touch screen.
